Atlanta, GA – September 19, 2011 – This month, JMH Consulting expands its efforts to fill the growing need for benchmarking information in the higher education industry by providing standards around the performance of university continuing education websites. The Website Benchmarking Initiative will give university departments, who serve non-traditional students, a deeper understanding of key website metrics, such as typical bounce rate, time on page, and number of pages visited. JMH Consulting will distribute quarterly “State of the Industry” reports to university departments that contribute their data. Schools can leverage this information to measure their website’s effectiveness and make data-driven marketing and program decisions. All continuing education departments are invited to participate and contribute to the industry’s knowledge around website standards.

“Since the 90’s, we’ve consulted with many continuing education departments who have struggled to understand how their websites are performing,” says Jon Horn, president of JMH Consulting. “More recently, Google Analytics has made it easy to collect critical website data, but most schools still find the interpretation and use of that data to be a real challenge. We hope that, by providing these benchmarks, universities will better understand how they are performing in relation to others in the industry, and thus know where to focus their website improvement efforts.”

Continuing education departments that submit website data to the initiative will receive quarterly “State of the Industry” reports, outlining the industry’s standards for key website metrics and best practices, as well as monthly “Insights” reports with brief industry-specific data points gleaned from ongoing research. Participants may also choose to pay a small annual fee to receive custom reports that compare their department’s website to industry standards, comparable institutions, and year-over-year performance.

Higher and continuing education departments who are interested in furthering the industry’s knowledge around website benchmarks are encouraged to join the initiative by visiting www.jmhconsulting.com/benchmarking.
