Best practices in continuing and executive education websites

To the right is a growing series of articles designed to provide guidance on the creation and optimization of continuing and executive education websites. Before you delve into the content, let me make two quick qualifications.

First, these articles are not intended as a technical guide to the creation of websites. The technology our industry uses to create websites isn’t significantly different than any other industry and many technical guides to building websites already exist. What doesn’t exist (to my knowledge, at least) are guidelines around creating effective layout, content, navigation, etc. that are unique to continuing and executive education websites. Therefore, these articles are intended to help webmasters, program staff, directors, and deans alike….anyone involved in the creation, maintenance, or approval of websites in our industry.

Second, these articles are a “work in progress” and should by no means be considered exhaustive or conclusive. Rather, my goal is to add to the general body of knowledge surrounding the effective use of websites...specifically for adult education. I hope that each reader will make use of ideas they find valuable, offer constructive criticism on those they don’t, and contribute new ideas from their own experience.

I hope you find value in these articles.
